New Content, New Features, New Events!
July has been an exciting month for DCUO, with a LOT going on! From new content reveals to new updates and features to special events, make sure you are up to date on all the latest news!
1) New Promethium Lockboxes Now Available, PLUS Cross-Faction Styles!
At the top of the list, we have new and improved Promethium Lockboxes, featuring the Loot Picker and an expanded set of items, which include our first implementation of cross-faction styles! #UniteTheStyles
New Promethium Lockboxes are now available in-game! We have improved and expanded the items found inside, and implemented the loot picker so you always have a choice of rewards. These rewards now range from the incredible new Compound Omega to Marketplace items to a broad selection of over 800 style items, including some cross-faction styles!
Keep reading for a detailed breakdown of what options the new Promethium Lockboxes will include:
Every Promethium Lockbox also includes a guaranteed Mark of Victory (not in the loot picker).
Promethium Lockboxes can be opened automatically by Members, or opened by non-Members with the purchase of a Promethium Key in the in-game Marketplace.
2) Coming Soon: New Rewards Outside of Mark Relevancy
Second, we announced plans for new rewards for players attempting content that has become trivial to them. Soon there will be new drive and reward for revisiting older content on all your characters.
Missing those old Marks of Triumph? Think you need more reasons to revisit content you have already mastered? Keep reading!
Wait. What is Mark Relevancy?
When content is of appropriate challenge for you, it rewards you guaranteed Marks of Victory, which you then use to progress your character through the game. When content has become trivial to you, it no longer rewards Marks of Victory.
This system is in place for numerous reasons, not least of which that it sets up the launch of our new monthly Episodes. But, we have heard your concerns about how your play habits have changed without Marks of Triumph luring you back to earlier tiers (even though gear drops, styles, and feats remain unchanged), about the variety of content you experience day in and day out, about missing that feeling of awesome you get when returning to once-challenging content and blowing it out of the water.
Let's face it, there is a ton of really fun content in DCUO outside of your relevancy window, and while you probably don't want to return to all of it every day, and while it makes perfect sense that returning to it does not advance your high level character, it does make sense that you would want to return to some of it, on some days, and that you want some reason to do so. Marks of Triumph were a small and shrinking reward, mere pennies on the dollar the farther back you went, but they were a reward. They were a reason.
New Rewards!
Going forward, we plan to return that reason in the form of new rewards. When playing content trivial to you (outside your relevancy window), you will receive a random item from the list below each time you would have received Marks previously, meaning generally one item per boss. (For most modern instances, this means three bosses, and thus three random items per instance.)
Rare:
Common:
The common items here are of use to everyone, something for your time. The rare items are split between an incredible, scaling new buff consumable in the Compound Omega, found otherwise only in Promethium Lockboxes, and actual progression for your character in a Mark of Victory.
Our goal with this addition is to provide a reason to return to trivial content that is still meaningful and motivating, so that everyone has cause to experience the fun of yesteryear, while still maintaining that character progression must be accomplished through content appropriate for your level.
3) Coming Soon: Titles!
Next, Game Update 51 moved onto the PC Test server with an all new customization feature: Titles! Unlock titles with feats across the game, and display your achievements prominently for all to see. Look for this feature to launch in the coming weeks.
With fame comes infamy. With great deeds comes great renown. In a word, titles! Players in DCUO will soon be able to customize their characters further with titles, unlocked by completing feats throughout the game. These titles will be displayed beneath character names in-game for all to see, and players will be able to choose which title they display in the Style menu.
For the launch of this new feature, we have revisited 40+ feats, some basic, some challenging, and added a title as a reward for their completion. Characters that have already completed these feats will automatically have these titles available!
Who will you be? How will you be known? The choice is yours in Game Update 51.
4) Special Legends PvE Event Weekends!
The weekends in July have been action-packed with the return of past Legends PvE events. This trend will continue into August, so make sure you check in with DCUO every weekend!
Watch for special Legends PvE events returning for the weekends, but only for a limited time. Mark your calendars for every Friday through Sunday for the foreseeable future, as past Legends PvE events return! Just check the Events tab in your On Duty menu to see what is available!
5) Game Update 50 Now Available!
Our latest Game Update introduced much-requested Duo content for Tier 4, inviting all players to experience some of the Mentor-specific leveling missions in a fresh new way. The update went on to significantly re-adjust Game Update 47's Stat Flattening to make the game overall just a bit easier, and to make players feel more powerful when returning to past content.
Game Update 50 launched of Black Adam for Legends, new Tier 4 Duos based on Mentor-specific leveling missions, re-balanced Game Update 47's Stat Flattening, and updated Nature, Light, and Electricity.
The work and testing on those powers continues as we refine methods with our community of testers, so look for more from us on that in the coming weeks, or check these threads for more information.
Meta, Magic and Tech Missions now Tier 4 Duos!
We have taken some of our most iconic missions and turned them into Tier 4 Duos! Heroes and Villains will fight alongside Wonder Woman and Circe in Shadowlands. Enter the Watchtower and witness the ever present struggle between Lex Luthor and Superman in The Watchtower: An Opportunity for Villains or Hall of Doom: Recovery for Heroes. In STAR Labs Satellite, both Heroes and Villains must enter the Batcave and face Brainiac’s android versions of Batman and the Joker!
